Pilates is about creating efficient and effective movement. At ProBalance, our practitioners and teachers are comprehensively trained and comfortable with using Pilates with all populations, ranging from those in need of rehab to those who are looking for performance.
This video describes 6 principles of movement that are emphasized in our style of movement training (Polestar Pilates) here at ProBalance.
1. Using Breath to facilitate movement, stability, and control
2. Using cues for length to facilitate the deep stabilizing musculature for core control with fluid movement
3. Spine articulation & mobility to help distribute movement to all parts of the spine, thus distributing forces and reducing the potential for "wear and tear" at vulnerable segments.
4. Weightbearing and alignment of the extremities to ensure that the joints of the extremities are positioned such that the forces are generated and withstood most optimally in activities such as squatting, walking, jumping, pushing, etc.
5. Head, neck, and shoulder organization is optimized to create the ideal postural position for the upper body to work efficiently and effectively with connection to the core.
6. Movement integration or putting it all together and being able to achieve the 5 principles above in the context of functional and multi planar movements.
